Reading
Students are expected to read 25 books this year. Outside reading benefits our students tremendously! At least thirty minutes each day is a good start. We require a monthly reading calendar of outside reading and it is part of the reading grade each quarter. Students should explore many genres and not stick with only a favorite author or reread only the same books. Along with recording minutes.pages on the log, students need to complete the back of the calendar. They should write a summary of one of the books they read for that month and list a second one.
Language Arts/Grammar
Spelling and grammar lessons are taught each day. These are often integrated with writing lessons. Weekly tests are given. Homework may include daily review of words or grammar skills.
